Premiere Pro CS6 is GPU Accelerated on my MacBook Pro

Posted on in Tech Notes

A common complaint from MacBook Pro users in the recent past has been that Premiere Pro’s Mercury Playback Engine (MPE) was only hardware accelerated on Nvidia cards, as it was initially designed using CUDA. In CS5.5 and even more in CS6 however, Adobe updated the design to support select AMD video cards via OpenCL. Although Premiere Pro CS6 has been out for awhile, I just recently installed it, and am happy to say that the MPE in CS6 is GPU accelerated on my early 2011 MacBook Pro (8,2) which has an AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 1GB RAM. This means more realtime playback of 1080p content with effects, without having to render the timeline.
